		<description>I did think about allowing a variety of ability substitutions for the multiple attacks, but as you say, I decided that would be too complex - the swap-out for a bonus on defense when fighting/casting defensively is a nice universal option that benefits everyone, and it doesn't change a monster's characteristics when they are in 'default' combat mode - so easy to DM.

Maybe I'll take a look at Master of Arms sometime, though.</description>

		<description>The Masters of Arms third party book deals with this idea. But rather than a pure defense bonus by 'dropping' attacks beyond the first you gain combat maneuvers.  Simply put the first or even first and second attacks are 'building up' towards a more complex combat move. One that has a greater benefit than a straight attack roll. More complex than you maybe looking for though. But it does allow a classic monster to have more tricks in its bag so to speak.</description>
